Wishful Wednesday ....Diets

Lets be honest,
in this day and age, diets are thrown in our face left and right!
From magazines, to talk shows, to the pressure of society.

and because of that, I am bringing this week's WW up!

I wish' .... I had the willpower to
stay on one particular diet,
and it would be Paleo!

The Paleo Diet, isn't really a diet, it is a lifestyle change that is truly insane!  hah -- I will be the first to admit it and really really wish I had the determination to make the switch to Paleo, but it is something that I could really only imagine myself doing short term.

The theory behind it is to eat like our ancestors ate, and they often refer to it as what a caveman eats.

3 basics:  Lean Protein, Good Fat, Decreased Carbs

Protein:  The average diet is composted of approximately 10% protein, most of which comes from dairy, grain and highly saturated-fat meats.  In Paleo Diet, protein calorie intake should be about 30-35% of the total energy consumed.

Fats:  Most Americans get about 40% of their energy from fat.  The percentage is the same in the Paleo Diet, but the TYPE of fat is very different.  An emphasis is placed on unsaturated fats, minimizing saturated and trans-saturated fats.

Decreased Carbs:  Carbohydrate intake comprises about 25-30% of the intake in the Paleo Diet.  Preferred sources are fruits and vegetables, with processed sugars, grains and legumes sources discouraged and minimized.  Most people average 50% of their calories from carbohydrates, this is twice as much as the Paleo Diet recommends.

Overall Paleo Diet:  Grass fed lean meats, raw nuts and seeds, fruits, veggies, AND no processed food, no sugar, no dairy, no carbs, no grains.  *****WHAT WHAT!!!  No cheat days or a resolution for sweet tooths?!?!  haha!  And talk about expensive eating and breathing from Whole Foods!

Similar to the diet I picked! :) I might have to look into it. As long as I can still have Diet Coke with lime, of course!

I just am focusing on exercise right now and not eating too much of everything... Sounds like a good lifestyle plan to me!

That is what the Crossfit program recommends as well.

I am very lucky... in that I don't gain weight. I guess I've had plenty of health problems that make that a reality for me... but I pretty much can eat whatever I want. That said, I DO wish I could eat healthier as a rule. I will work on that :)

Jared only eats Paleo....I try but its impossible with all the things I love =(

But I guess this would be my choice too, if only I could stick to it and be as strong as my husband, ha.

Let me see...
POPCORN...
Malted Easter Eggs!
Iced Sugar Cookies...
POPCORN...(Jolly Time 98% FF that is)!
Oatmeal...love me some Oatmeal...but it is loaded with carbs!
I do love the sounds of this diet.
And I have long wished to live this disciplined.
I know your skin would glow...
hair would too...
you'd be GLOWING from head to toe with the perfect SLEEK body!
But I just don't think I could do it.
I admire others that can...but I LOVE to cook...and eating GOOD food is just too much apart of my life. I know...that's why I feel like I do right now!
Weight Watchers seems the best choice of over all lifestyle change....a reasonable way to eat healthy.
Weight Watchers doesn't restrict what you eat...it's your portions that count.
I mean if I want to eat a bag of m&m's...
well I have to tally up the points and subtract those points from my total for the day.
This is the diet I am aiming to stick to.
I can eat a whole bowl of Jiffy Pop Popcorn...
squirted with ff butter...
and sea salt...
for ONE point!
So I could eat 20 bowls of that a day if I wanted and loose weight! Ha...haha! ;o)
I just need to STICK to it!
That's the KEY to it all!
And exercize DAILY!!!
Great POST Miss Kelsey!
I will pop back over to see what other diets are being raved about!
Are you going to start this diet?
What about all of that cereal GABE loves????
Will he eat on this plan too?
Seems like both of you would have to commit to this extreme way of eating to really stick to it.
Do you think?
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
xxooxx

I KNEW you were getting ready to write about Paleo. I would REALLY like to try it.. but I think I would miss CHEESE too much. I have done atkins before and lost bunches of weight but as with most diets it comes back when you go off it.. Paleo would be PERFECT but my BIGGEST gripe, besides not being able to have my wine-wednesday and drinkys on the weekends is HOW DANG EXPENSIVE it is... you left out all the grass fed meat business... i know that's 'extreme' but thats "real" paleo.. and pretty much only shopping at whole foods. ugh. though i guess with all the $ i saved on NOT drinking it would be about a wash. anywho... i would be into trying it for a month or so, but my big question to you is, where the hell is any weight you lose gonna come from? YOU ARE SO TRIM!!! you look AMAZING!!

Yikes that doesn't look easy to follow 24/7!!

Isn't that similar to the Zone diet? That works so well, if you can figure it out all day, everyday.

YOU and the word diet made me laugh out loud.
I have heard of this diet and I think I could totally do it...oh wait..except for the Dairy (I live for cheese even the fat free kind) and NO wine? I could go with a very low carb vodka. Gluten free vodka is good too. I feel best and lost weight when I stuck to gluten free diet, but I didnt eat the gluten free bread because it is WAYYYY HIGH in cals and fat. boo.
If I could stick to ANY diet EVERy.single Day it would be a miracle.

OMG, I can NOT stick to The Paleo Diet. I have to have my carbs because I do lots of cardio and strength training, so I need to be sure I'm fueling my body properly. What works for me is a 5-meals-a-day diet plan and LOTS of water! Have a Great Day Kelsey!

Hey Kelsey! I found your blog through Michelle's, and I just love it! Thanks for stopping by mine and commenting :) I'm new at this, but I think I'm getting the hang of it! I decided to participate in your W.W. since I had just done the whole G-free diet thing yesterday!

I have to do a paper for my nutrition class about a diet I would pick... this is great research for me with this mcklinky... haha!

That sounds like a big challenge! I WISH terribly I could do it! :)

I wish I could stick to a regular workout routine. I get in really good shape and then I start slacking off and have to start all over again!

Wow, if only I had enough determination to stick to this type of diet! Me and carbs are bff's though :-) Haha.

That sounds like a diet that'd work. I think my poor body is in survival mode right now though. I really don't eat enough calories on a daily basis, and I'm not losing weight. I surely am not a stick either. I could stand to lose about 10 lbs. Then, maybe I'd be a stick

Just started following your blog.
Great post, good luck girl :)

Oh gosh....I dont think that I could do that....would be nice if I could...but I dont even think that I could ATTEMPT something like that!!

That's so interesting! I've never heard of that one!

Sierra said...

I have never heard of this diet but I think it would be the one I would attempt to do to. It sounds really healthy but you are right it would be hard to cut out the sugar and carbs!

My mom has lost around 40-45 lbs on the Paleo diet. She loves it! I don't know if I have the willpower. I love Weight Watchers and did really great on the program.

I run from both - diet and exercise. I mind what I'm eating and keep everything in moderation. I avoid sweets and oily things and that is never an issue, as barring chocolates, none of them tempt me as much! But yes, I plan to get myself to exercise regularly soon!

do tell more you ask?...here's the special k cereal diet. i haven't been very successful at it since everyday i seem to veer off the plan. lol. still trying though.

I only eat grassfed meats now, Michael Pollan and Food Inc. totally changed the way I eat! I've also tried recently to cut out as much white sugar as possible and sweeten things with pure maple syrup instead.

Kelli Kegley said...

If you did this diet you would waste away! I,on the other hand, could definitely benefit but would never ever EVER be able to cut out sweets indefinitely! ha
