Target vs. WalMart

Now, we all can admit that we once shopped at a dreadful Target or Wal-Mart stores, whcih was totally run down, in a bad part of town, and can even be scary to walk to your car.

CNNMONEY.com had an article where two recent price comparisons of grocery and household goods revealed that Target's prices are lower than at No. 1 retailer Wal-Mart.

BUT, I want to discuss the new state of the art Super Target & Super WalMarts that are clean, pristine, and offer all of it's fabulousness!  In the Seattle area, I can count slim to none nice WalMarts, but Dallas is an entirely different story.  I personally LOVE Target because (re-read the sentence before) AND their location to my house makes it obvious, but I have to be honest that I am jealous of the WalMart my sister-in-law shops at in the Greater Dallas Area.  It's beyond dreamy .....

Are you a loyal Target or Wal-Mart shopper and why!!

I love Target because they carry quality items that I want or need, at a resonable price. It seems Walmart stuff is cheaper quality. I occassionally shop at Walmart, but only if they have something I want and I can't buy it elsewhere.

Love Tar-jay!! We don't have a super Target though & I've never been to one! :(

IDK about everyone else's Wal-mart, but ours is HORRIBLE! They have 40 registers but only 4 lines open. I have to ALWAYS go to the electronics department to check out!

I usually shop at Walmart because it's always been a *bit* cheaper than Target, but now I live closer to a Target and going to Walmart is a hassle since it's so far away.

I hope Target b/c of the "experience". Wal-mart's store are not as well maintained and I do not enjoy shopping in a dirty store. I have nothing against Wal-mart...but when I shop (i love to shop!) I do prefer a clean, tidy environment. Some people believe Wal-mart is cheaper and I believe some stuff is, but I also feel the quality is less. And, mostly in the produce area. The Super Targets are AMAZING! Great post!

I don't mean to be racist in anyway HOWEVER>..I lived in Yuma, AZ for 5 years. This town had THREE Walmarts and One Target. 2 yrs ago, The walmart that was built there was the biggest in the nation. I shopped there bec it was impeccably CLEAN and neat and always stocked. However, the reason we had 3 and only one Target was bec of the Clientele...meaning who lived in my town was majority if not all 99.5 % hispanics. Towns cater to who lives there. Period. Now back in good ole Ohio where I went to school, There were a bizzillion targets and few Walmarts.....are we putting the pieces together?

I shop wherever is Cleanest and nicest. Walmart I can get groceries from (reminds me of A Meijers back in OH) Target you can't really get that much stuff. Target has nicer quality clothes, but I would never supply my wardrobe from either store Just my opinion. Don't judge! :)

I am a loyal Wal-mart shopper! I am from northwest arkansas (home of sam walton...aka founder of walmart) so we are gung ho about walmart! but i also LOVE target (for clothes and accessories..not so much groceries) :)

Annie said...

I dont discriminate...I shop at both :)

Samantha said...

I don't like the stigma that comes with being a WalMart shopper in the northwest. For societal reasons, Target just seems more sophisticated to me.

I love Target and Walmart but I always find myself going to Walmart :)

I tend to prefer Target because it does generally feel like a nicer atmosphere, they have starbucks, and I would buy thier clothes and shoes! But hey, I still go to Walmart every now and then!

I saw this article today. So glad you posted about it! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE me some Target. I've always been a loyal Target shopper. I remember debating the whole Wal-Mart/Target thing in high school (gasp) 11 years ago. Even back then I preferred Target. I just enjoy the atmosphere & merchandise at Target. Also, I'm a teacher & there were only Wal-Marts in both of the towns I've taught in so I would always ran into students there. (So I never felt like I could just run in real quick looking grubby.) Since I always had to go to another town to go to Target, the chances of running into students was a lot less.
Anyway, I am loyal to Target through and through. In fact, my hubby loves Target as much as I do so that makes me love him that much more. ;)

Target, Target, Target. I happen to live in a town with one of THE MOST disgusting Walmarts and I can't do it. Cannot. Do. It.

TARGET!!!! I love there clothing selection! Jewelry! Oh and don't get me started on the shoes :)

Target all the way! Their stuff is so cute and cheap! What better combination?

Shop at both. Love Target. I like the "new" Walmart and hope they continue to improve their image/quality etc of items offered.

i LOVE Target but do think their prices are higher than Wal-Mart for the items I am shopping for. Walmart is on my way home so I do tend to stop there more often. I think Target is more 'up scale', lol!

We have no Target in Canada, let alone Calgary! I do love to shop Target when I am in the sates. So I am stuck with Walmart!

Tar-jay for me...its a life long learned obsession. My fav is the park/tollway one in Plano :)

Kristin said...

The closest walmart to me is NASTY!!!!!!!!! I will not go there. But the one in arizona by the grandparents is awesome!
I am a Target girl all the way

Target! Target! Target!

Clean. Trendy stuff. Fun.

KW said...

I think I know of this walmart. In Plano or lewisvile? Because they are both beautimous! I like target as a general whole but walmart I can get TWICE as much at and usually like almost as much!

Lindsay said...

LOVE Target! Mainly because, like you said, WalMarts are trashy around Seattle (living in the south end, I bet they're even worse down here!) I was so excited to be only five minutes away from a Target when I moved in with my boyfriend!

Ashley Stone said...

I LOVE Target! I get everything there. I hate Walmart... I know there are nice ones out there, but the one near us is dirty and creepy.

LaVonne said...

Love Target. ;) No comparison.

I like to browse around Target and I love their home decor and clothes but we have a Wal Mart closer so we usually end up there.

Jennifer B said...

I saw this article yesterday on Yahoo! Now I have more of an excuse to shop at Target! Did you also hear about their 5% cash back debit card?

Natasha said...

target takes the cake for me my dear...there is one within 2 miles from my house and i am there constantly!!!!

Jenn @ West Sac Honey said...

I thought that Target might be cheaper in some areas but that's crazy it took the cake. I still love my Wal Mart prices for everything.. I'll have to price compare next week when I grocery shop.

I go to the Northgate Target quite a bit! Is there another Super Target in the area? See you tonight!

Target all the way! (Like Carol, I also shop at the Northgate Target) :)

LOVE Target...Walmart not so much--in my area it's a very overcrowded and run down. Target has cute clothes!

Raven said...

haha I love your comments about everyone being to a shoddy Target and Walmart, and about it being scary to walk to your car haha!! Glad you found a nice clean Target to shop at! Lord knows we can't do without them :)

Dana said...

Love love love Target!!! We just got our first super target in Portland here not too long ago real close to the airport!!! And while it's not the closest one I definitely still shop there at times (close to the hubby's work) and it's super nice!! Walmarts...even the remodeled ones are still kinda icky. But it really depends on the location.

Kristin said...

I much prefer Target. BUT that is because I am in Seattle and the Walmarts in the area are gross! If there were a nicer Walmart nearby I would probably shop at both.

Jessie said...

I am 100% Target! I have personal reasons but to say the least the quality at Target is better even if you do have to pay a bit more! I use coupons to compensate for the difference!

Jessica said...

Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood I just go walk around Target and all of the cute clothes and decor put me in a good mood. Plus it is always a good day when you find something awesome in the dollar section!

On the other hand, when I have to shop at Wal Mart I leave in a bad mood! There are always 100 people working but somehow there are never more than 4 checkout lines open. So annoying

And don't get me started about the crazies you see at Wal Mart..

TAR-GET' BABY ALL THE WAY!!!
its always cleaner, less packed, and in my opinion higher quality stuff...

sure its more expensive, but that is just the convenience fee.

Oddly enough, my former job was in construction and we built alot of walmarts and targets! The city/area is who makes all those stipulations on cosmetics so some places have beautiful stores and some dont! I prefer target b.c of merchandise! We have about 6 targets around nashville and only like 2 walmarts. Walmart has the best storage bin selection and prices though!

Shay said...

Love Target and LOVE that you live in Seattle- I miss it there!

Meghan said...

I am a loyal Target shopper for the simple reason that they have the cutest clothes and shoes:) Plus, Wal-Mart isn't allowed to have locations in Chicago, so Target is an easy win:)

Shannon said...

Target all the way! I love the store, (usually) so bright and clean! Also love to grab a soda and browse. Well, okay browsing is what I used to do before I had a child but you get the idea.

Love Target's clothes too and have found some really cute items. Plus WalMart in our town is beyond scary and not a place you'd go in the day much less evening time!

Jax said...

I LOVE Target. Love. That said, I do like the Wal-Mart neighborhood market for groceries near me. I dont have a supercenter (target) nearby and the wal-mart supercenters are icky around me. Sooo I often go the the regular Target for paper towels, etc and then the Wal Mart grocery store! :)

Sierra said...

TARGET all of the way! i think i like it because it seems a bit more put together for me?! also their home decor and clothing is a lot better in my opinion.
