The Gold Coast-Day 6

After a relaxing day in Surfers, Gabe and I decided we needed to get out and about to explore our last day, so could experience the city instead of be lazy bumpkins!

Before doing so, Gabe experienced his first CROSSFIT workout in the convenience of our hotel room.  I keep a long list of traveling WOD's (workout of the day) on my Blackberry that I use if I am out of town for work and/or can't get to the gym if I'm in a time crunch where no equipment is required, just body weight!!  Which can be plenty a lot of the time.  I have been trying to get Gabe to crossfit with me for the last year as I know he'll love it if he gives it a shot.  In Australia, our routines were thrown off, so he gave it a shot!  We did a "tabata" workout, which is four times of intense interval workouts.  20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest .... for four minutes with burpees, squats, dips, and situps.  It started out quite easy, and then muscle failure came!!

Then, we started our leisure walk to the the Spit

Needed some caffeine and 7-Eleven lured us in for their $1 latte!
Talked to a fellow at the register who I will reference later -- remember him!

The last time I was at Sea World, I vividly remember wearing a red and white polka dot jumper and was like 6 years old.  I wasn't obeying my Paw Paw, so he walked off and left me!!  (Of course not going far!)

I read all about Peter's Fish Market where you could pick your fresh fish to take home or have them cook it on the spot.  The line was probably 20 people deep and was very reasonably priced.  Loved the outdoor seating to enjoy by the wharf.

Lots to choose from

Excited for my kids meal :)

Gabe's got his game face on!

We didn't realize it was a 5-mile haul to the Spit, but it was totally worth it!

So peaceful

Surfers everywhere

Can't believe we've been married four years!!

The high-rises on the left is Surfers, which means we had a good long trek home!  Thank goodness we planned ahead and wore comfortable shoes!

Here's a zoomed in version of the city of Surfers Paradise.
I still cannot get over all the high-rises!!

After being around in the sand and on the beach, I instantly starting itching once I got back to the hotel room.  Supposedly, sand fleas can be a problem in beach towns, and I was determined they got me here or we had bed bugs.  There's been a lot of hype about the bed bugs breakout, and they were top of mind after my constant itching.  Gabe said it was all in my head as he was perfectly fine and been in same corridors as me :(   UGH!

My favorite meal in Surfers was dinner right on the beach!  We learned so much about the way of life in town from this sweet girl who worked for her parents as they owned The Beach Cafe.  This city thrives off tourism, and times were really tough considering the economy.

Chicken Quesadilla for the lady

and Cheeseburger and "chips" (as they call fries) for the man!

After walking 11 or so miles, Gabe was in heaven at the milkshake bar!
It was a hard selection considering we didn't know what half their candy bars were!  But, of course he made somethin' happen!

Next stop, Cairns and Port Douglas,
To be continued ....

I am drooling over all the fresh fish! And I seriously had no idea there were so many high rises in Australia! I guess I just always associated it with the wild outback and kangaroos!
