A little giggle

(Guest Blogging by Katie)

Hello, hello everyone! Welcome to Kelsey’s blog! Kelsey should be getting back in town this evening, so she decided to let me take over her blog – How nice of her, yes? My name is Katie, I am a fellow blogger as well, and today I am going to tell you a little story. Just something small to make you giggle. I hope this adds character to your day and you will forgive Kelsey eventually for her forcing me on you. I’m really not all that bad, I promise.

Show of hands… How many people have taken online classes before? Hands high people! Well, I am currently in graduate school at Texas A&M University, and I am earning my Masters of Science in Human Resource Development. The very cool thing about my program is it’s ALL online. When I say all, I mean all. My classmates live all over the U.S. and they never have to come in to do meetings, take tests, etc. Well, being that our classes are all online, campuses are coming up with new ways to enhance the face-to-face experience even though we are all away. I will now like to tell you a story that I have stumbled on to. I will not tell you who this story is about. I will not name any one person in particular. Just know that this is a true story, it did happen, it did result in some good laughs and the person is in no way living this down.

In this one particular online class, the teacher has it set up to where the classmates and she can chat via the computer’s microphone and webcam. At the bottom of the screen each classmate can see the others when their webcams are turned on. Well, our one particular student, we shall call her Suzy Q, uses her desktop to complete all her online classes. Her webcam is set up, her microphone is always on, and she does an excellent job at staying engaged. One night when Suzy Q came home, she did not feel like working on school work in the computer room so she grabbed her lap top, went to her bedroom, logged in and decided to get ready for bed while the teacher was talking. She knew not being on her desktop would take away from the face-to-face interaction but she was willing to part with this. While the other classmates are discussing their assignments, Suzy Q decides to go wash her face. Half way through the process, while soap is dripping down her face and stinging her eyes, Suzy Q hears “Ms. Q! Ms. Q! Are you there?!” Suzy hurry’s back into her bedroom, eyes half closed, barely able to see and answers into her mic, “Yes! I’m here!” She couldn’t grab the microphone of course since her hands were extremely soapy so she was practically face to face with her laptop screen. Oh well, she knew it was loud but her classmates could just deal. After Suzy Q had responded and assured everyone she was listening and responding, she hurried back to the bathroom to rinse off her face. After settling back in front of her laptop she decides she wants to change out of her work clothes. Suzy Q stands up, goes to her drawer and pulls out some soffee shorts, pulls off her shirt, followed by her work pants and then, coming from her laptops speakers she hears “Ms. Q!! That is very inappropriate!!” Yes, yes my friends… that’s right… Suzy Q, completely shocked, walks up to her laptop, half naked mind you, gets super close to the screen, peers into a little hole at the top and while she is contemplating what is going on, the teacher responds “yes Suzy Q. You are on camera.” Suzy Q quickly fold the screen down, pulls on some clothes, get’s back to her laptop and already there is a flurry of chatter coming across the chat room about her nakedness! “oh my gosh, she doesn’t know she is on camera…” “she shouldn’t have stopped her!” “wow, how embarrassing for her” – Turns out my BBs, Suzy Q had a built in webcam to her laptop, like a lot of laptops do, and the program her school uses automatically turns webcams on if one is detected… lovely, yes?

Moral of the story – Make sure when you are completing an online assignment, you throw on your most attractive knickers and skip out on school when it’s a laundry day.

The.End.

Feel free to come on over to say hello HERE whenever you'd like :)

Haha, hilarious! I, too, am taking online classes and we meet in Second Life, which is a 3D environment with avatars. The first meeting a classmate accidentally took the top of the table and put it on her head. For the longest time she didn't know it and I was ROTFL seeing her avatar sit there with the table on her head as the professor was spouting off rules- rule #1- DO NOT TAKE WHAT OTHERS HAVE CREATED! Hehe.. woops.. she took the table top!

That is too funny, but I feel terrible for Suzy Q. I love taking online classes, they're the best! Thanks for sharing and I will definitely pop over and visit your blog!!

That's hilarious! I am also completing my Master's via the Internet, but so far none of my classes have been taught through a web cam. We only interact through chat rooms (kind of lame), but I have a built-in camera on my lap top so this could totally happen to me, too! HA!

Oh my how embarrassing is that for that girl. Glad I'm not taking any online classes. Sounds like something I'd end up doing.
