No good very bad day

I called maintence last night because our sink obviously is beyond messed up and wouldn't drain. While I was at it, Gabe asked me to have maintence change the THREE light bulbs that are out - see photo! I think it's hysterical that we didn't even notice a few lights in the guest bath were out untill we only had one to work with!  The office was closed, so I wasn't planning on getting a response till the following day ... but an emergency occurred (read further down for details lol).

I woke up this morning and the water had all drained, so I thought it was fixed and just super slow. With that being said, I thought it would only make sense to run the dishwasher .... big mistake. I noticed the sink was clogged again, so I took a photo to send to Gabe as an update while he was at the office. Not sure why, but I randomly opened the cabinet under the sink mid-email and see everything soaking wet with the pipe gushing water.

Thank goodness for intuition because I would have just gone on with my day, and I can only imagine how bad it could have been.  It was a nightmare as everything was in a half inch of standing water, AND the office was closed so I couldn't get hold of anyone except by calling a 1-800 number.  I made very clear that it was an emergency and water was gushing.  It only took 25 minutes, which gave me plenty of time to turn this kitchen around and make it at least manageable.

Did my husband even think to look at the pipes last night, no. Be sure to zoom in on the photo above, it was a mess!!!  See all those big cups .... Yup I had nine filled to the brim before I had the bright idea to grab the bucket from the garage.  Then, I called Gabe to see what I should do and all his only suggestion was call maintence (as I already did, duh)!!  Thank goodness for renting as I would of been in deep water (pun intended) calling an emergency plumber as Gabe isn't the handiest man of the house.  A fantastic man, but handy wouldn't be anywhere close to a characteristic of his :)

Maybe I should never by a house .....

Oh Goodness! That stinks Girl! We've definitely had some issues in our new Condo the last few months! We had ants in the kitchen, washer/dryer not working, and carpet giving us allergies! I hope you get it all fixed up quick! Have a better day tomorrow!

Oh noooo!!! I know how frustrating that kind of stuff can be. Thank goodness for renting - I totally agree with you there! That's one of the things that scares me about buying a house..LoL

Uh oh! Sorry that happened! Plumbing problems are intimidating to me because I don't understand at all how to fix it. Good luck!

oh girl! what a mess! things like that do happen when you have a house...but a glass of wine and a good laugh helps! hang in there! at least you caught it! :)

I've wondered a lot lately, whether I'm weird for being completely anti-house buying - apparently I'm not the only one! Yay! (Weirdness is gone now!) My husband isn't much of a handyman, either. I would really miss maintenance if I bought a house - plus, just knowing, "eh... this isn't really mine", is kind of comforting when something crazy happens!

JC and I havent bought a house for that very reason!! Fear of things breaking and not knowing how to fix it and not wanting to pay to fix it! :)

HAHA!!

Hope things got figured out and didnt mess too much up!!

Glad you caught it when you did!!

UGH! Our garbage disposal stopped working the other day and now the sink won't drain hardly ever and there is always food in it since the disposal doesn't work! It's a MESS!

hubby here is extremely handy. to the point that sometimes I would rather hire it out..he finds stuff to "fix" all the time.
That does NOT sound fun at all....water and sink mess are brutal to clean up...hope it's all fixed asap!

Ugh, that sucks! Hope your maintenance gets right on it. See, there definitely ARE plus sides to renting!!

I swear your place looks just like a townhouse we rented in the Highlands. At first the sink/countertop looked familiar, then the bathroom/lights and then the kitchen island/cabinets...identical, it's deja vu!

Oh no!!! We had that happen in our kitchen a while back! Only we had to call our dads... LOL

Yikes! We've been having plumbing issues ourselves, but unfortunately as home owners there's no maintenance man to call!

Wow! That is def. one of the perks of renting that I miss. Hope it is fixed asap!

Hopefully you got it fixed. That happened to me the whole dishwasher was flooded and then started spewing out the sides and got everywhere.

THANKfully my boyfriend was a plummer in his early days lol.

Your garbage disposal was clogged that's usually the problem.. Stick your hand in there and grab the stuff out.

Oh no that is no fun! Glad maintenance was so quick to respond though! Poor Gabe, I am sure he has MANY great talents, handyman just isn't one of them :)

Ugh! That sounds like the worst! I hope you had a better day today.

Oh I can only imagine the headache you got from that! Hopefully nothing was ruined. Gabe sounds like my boyfriend - wonderful but not too handy! haha - Glad the maintenance man was able to fix it all though :)

Try and have a better day tomorrow!!

Oh my goodness I know the feeling! At my last apartment, the pipes connected to the disposal came loose and we had no idea so we kept running the water in the sink!! We only found out when we went to get a garbage bag under the sink and water was standing under the sink!! It was such a pain to deal with.

Jessica said...

We had that happen to us last year! not good! Hope everything is better with your sink now!

Oh dear, this would be so frustrating! I'm excited about buying a house one day but not having that emergency number is NOT cool!

Oh fun home problems, love it! We just bought a new fridge and had a leak . . . they couldn't come out for a week! huh?!

Anywho yes being a home owner is FAB cause you don't have to wait on apartment people to get it done, you make some calls and handle it yourself and it's fab. oooh except you have to pay for it instead of apartment complex . . . ok ok.

Have a fab weekend hun hope things go better! I have missed reading your blog:-)

I know this has nothing to do with your awful day a few weeks ago, but I just HAD to let you know that while in Ireland we saw a few BARS that had the straightening iron vending thing in the bathroom! Too funny!!!
