Little Visitors

Jiffy Lube employee after finishing my oil change:  You have a few visitors hanging out in your engine (while holding acorns in his hand)!

Me:  Excuse me, what??

Employee:  It seems squirrels are nesting in your engine.

weheartit.com

Me:  What?  Are you sure?

Employee:  Do you park your car outside during the night?

Me:  Yes .....

Employee:  Since it had been so chilly, it seems like multiple squirrels have been trying to stay warm during the night and hiding little acorns throughout.  We will spray some cleaner throughout the engine, and it will hopefully make it where the don't come back.

*HAHAH, okay -- crazy right?  Has anyone heard of this?!?!

My BFF had the same thing happen with mice... she went to France for 2 weeks and they invaded her car - which was parked indoors.

I've heard of cats doing that, but not squirrels! Kinda makes you feel bad for them that they are that cold!

Kristen said...

What?!?!!? I feel bad for the little guys... they must be so cold to resort to hanging out in a car's engine :) Kinda cute... hope the acrons didn't do too much damage.

I just laughed out loud! I can just see your face "excuse me what? are you sure?!" HAHA! Thats waaaayyyy better than the snake that Arrie had in her car! Remember how I made 20lbs/6 pans of mashed potatos?! Well, lets just say after 3 hours of boiling and mashing only 2 pans got eaten...bobbles and poooop

Haha, I haven't but it doesn't surprise me. Did you hear about the guy who found the "dead" iguanas in florida...they warmed up in his car and came to life. Freaked him out!

That is nuts!!! We had those little visitors as pets growing up. It was kind of an accident but they ate the bird seed and then they started coming everyday and would play with us. Anyhow,I just recently found the site weheartit. Does it run as slowly for you as it does me??

That is a new one for me! It could of been something alot worse than squirrels though! Ewwww!

I wonder how long they've been hididng out in your car! That's too funny!

LWLH said...

You have to watch out for stray cats and kittens too.

Heather (Live.Love.Laugh.) said...

LOL, too funny. I have heard of cats doing this in the winter in Chicago. I have heard (unfortunate) stories of cats nesting in the engine and they don't survive when the car starts. Sad. When I parked outside before I had a garage I would bang on the hood so any 'supposed cats' were scatter away.

Mrs EyeCanSee said...

Nope...that's a new one! Crazy!

I cant believe this!! How funny! Great story to tell others! :-)

I'm just glad they left before you started your car!

It JUST happened to my friend! But, it was RATS that made nest in her car and caused hundreds of dollars worth or damage.

angela.kolachny said...

oh my goodness! hahaha thank goodness YOU weren't the one to find it! yikes!!!

Jen said...

Oh yes I've heard of this! My mechanic told me about it last year after I found a dead mouse on my passenger-side carpet. Yup, a little mouse had the same mind as your squirrel friends and made a warm home in my glove compartment! (not sure how he got in there)

It's pretty common from what I understand. PITA though...

Do WHAT?????

Kassie said...

No way!! I'd say it's cute, but maybe not?! :) hehe. My high school boyfriend had a mouse crawl up in his car to stay warm! It was so odd! Hopefully this'll fix everything right up. :)

allison @ designing woman said...

i've heard of cats going up under the hood, but i'm allergic to cats so i might not care if one got smoked! yes i said that... crazy about the squirrels tho!

KW said...

Oh my goodness! I would be terrified to turn on my car for fear of hurting one of the little guys! BUT, I'm a psychotic animal-lover. Like probably will end up getting rabies or something terrible trying to pick up a squirrel/raccoon (insert random wile rodent in here) and help it if it's hurt or stuck. My gma killed my dad's kitty that way when he was a boy and I literally don't know what I'd DO with myself if I did something like that. Watch out for those little boogers, what a funny story!!!

Kristin said...

What!? LOL Poor things!

An Ex of mine had that too - except they never left in the daytime so onetime he tuned his car on and heard them scampering out of it!
