Water consumption




1.  75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.


2.  37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.


3.  Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.


4.  One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.


5.  Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.


6.  Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.


7.  A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.


8.  Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

  2. As I'm sitting next to 4 empty water bottles that I refill daily for my 8 glasses of water a day - yes I do! It's hard work I like ice cold water. I loved all the facts thanks!

  3. I drink about 2 to 3 bottles a day but so I'm hoping that's enough. I always have a bottle by me at night too because for some reason, I get SUPER thirsty during my sleep. My NEED for a diet pepsi always kicks in during the day though! lol..

    Loved all of the facts! Defintely an eye opener

  7. Since I started the flat belly diet, I've been drinking between 64-70 oz of water a day and have seen a HUGE increase in my energy and a significant decrease in my appetite. It's crazy! Good info. =)

  10. Very interesting! I try really hard to drink a lot of water throughout the day, but it is so hard. Sometimes I feel like I just can't choke it down because I am not thirsty!

  16. This is a great post! I'm not good at drinking many fluids! I really have to focus on drinking water to get the right amount in each day. It is something I am working on though. I definitely agree that drinking extra water helps you feel less hungary and fatigued!

  19. The docs also told me lack of water can cause Braxton Hicks contractions! Needless to say, I have been drowning myself with water since I found that out a few weeks ago!!!

  28. HOnestly, I am probably one of those chronically dehydrated people! I am NEVER thirsty! I have to force myself to remember to drink my bottles of water a day, and then I drink one all at once , kind of like "taking my medicine" for the day. WIsh I were better! :)

  31. And here's something else - thirst is actually a later sign of dehydration. So by the time you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated!

  32. A very informative post! I make it a point to drink at least two litres of water everyday and that does not count the other juices etc that I may take during the day. Drinking water is also important to flush out the toxins from your body and make you feel lighter and fresher!

  38. I use those little flavor packets and shake them up in my water to give them a little taste, making it easier to drink more water. Where did you find those stats? Very interesting!

  41. These are great facts! I drink TONS of water all day long because I've been doing Bikram yoga lately. And you will pay for it during class if you don't properly hydrate!

  54. LOVED this post. I recentlt started monitoring my water intake and it was surprisingly low. I use an app on the iphone called "Water" and i have felt 1000000% better since increasing my water intake.
    Also helps make pretty skin!
